Safety Matters – When do Elevator Ropes Need Replacing?

In this episode of Safety Matters, ED/AD Regional Supervisor Rene Karavas demonstrates the conditions in which elevator hoist ropes require replacement.

While not a new requirement, with TSSA’s adoption of ASME A17.6 in May 2012, some clarity around the criteria for rope replacement will help both owners and contractors achieve the same safety ends.

Video highlights include:

  • Rope replacement due to loss of diameter
  • Rope replacement due to rouge and broken wires
  • Additional rope replacement conditions
  • Safety conditions when replacing ropes
